SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Michael Clarence Holmes, 63, passed away on July 3, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a battle with cancer.
Michael ( Mike ) was born in Pocatello to Richard LeRoy and Pauline Seidel Holmes; he was the eldest of eight children. Mike’s dad worked construction so the family moved around during his childhood. After high school Mike joined the Army and during his tour in Vietnam he drove a supply truck. After returning home he worked as a fireman in Blackfoot.
Mike married Wanda Woodland on March 23, 1973, in Blackfoot and they moved to Rock Springs, Wyo., where they raised three children. Mike worked as a boilermaker until being hired by Black Butte Coal as a welder, and then hired on at Simplot where he remained employed as a welder.
Mike was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved hunting, fishing, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Wanda; their children Ryan and wife Robin, Wayde and Alyssa; five grandchildren — Brett, Phoebe, Riley, Regan, and J.J. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Patty, and three brothers — Steven, Brady, and Matty.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 255 Edgar St. in Rock Springs with a viewing at 10 a.m. and services at noon, followed by a luncheon.
Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.
