LEWISTON — Bill McKinster of Lewiston passed away on July 6, 2011, at the age of 76 at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, Wash.
Bill was an investigator in animal health for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1989; then returning to animal health for the Idaho Department of Agriculture, retiring in 2004.
Bill married Virginia (Allison) McKinster on June 12, 1970. Together they raised 27 "McKinster Thoroughbreds" which they raced in Boise; California and Arizona. They enjoyed training their horses (they were like their kids) and watching them race, winning the Idaho Cup in 2003 at Boise.
Bill is survived by his wife; two sisters, Phyllis (Wayne) Humiston of Colorado and Sharon (Rob) Colorado; two children, R.J. Canterbury and Christine of Wyoming, Connie Bauer and Clyde of Colorado; two step-children, Bruff Shea and Sandy of Colorado and Debbie Thiriot and Brent of Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Jess, mother Mary and brothers Don and Bob. At his request cremation has taken place.
Family suggests memorials be made to your local animal shelter as Bill was an advocate for this great cause!!
