BLACKFOOT — When Jason Slagowski received notice that he had won the Blackfoot Elks Herby Derby raffle, he was just leaving work at Basic American.
"I saw that I had missed a call and my voicemail just kicked in," he said.
Slagowski returned the call and learned he had earned a ride in tonight's Demolition Derby at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. to wrap up the eight-day run of the 109th annual event.
Keith Gardener drew Slagowski's ticket from among 200 others in front of a small crowd at the Elks Lodge.
Slagowski said he bought four tickets on Thursday.
"Twenty dollars invested with a chance to win $1,000," said Doug Bowers, the raffle chairman. "Not a bad investment."
