Edward LeRoy “Trapper” Popejoy passed away at age 78 at his home in Blackfoot from natural causes.
Trapper was born April 23,1933, in Salmon to Hilra L. and Naomi (Moore) Popejoy. He grew up in the Pahsimeroi and Patterson area where he attended grade school. He later attended Challis High School before going to work in the Ima Mine near Patterson. He was the oldest of four children and spoke fondly of life with his father, mother and sisters in Patterson.
On June 5, 1954, he married Juanita Gini in Challis. Trapper worked as a miner during their early married life, and the couple traveled from Patterson to the Ima and Moab mines before settling in Twin Falls to run a service station for a brief time. In 1967, Trapper and Juanita moved with their four children to Blackfoot where Trapper worked for American Oil, Bucyrus Erie, and the INL before retiring.
Trapper loved fishing, hunting, camping, and fast cars, but nothing made him happier or prouder than his wife and family. He always had a story or antic to share and those who knew him best will always remember the funny lines and stories he told. He loved visits from his sisters, kids, grandkids, and friends, and his company will be greatly missed.
Trapper is survived by his wife, Juanita (Gini); four children, Vickie Burke, Michael (Cindy) Popejoy, Gini (Jeff) Peterson, and Rick (Juli) Popejoy, all of Blackfoot. He has 12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Lois (Lee) Lenon and JoAnn (Ronny) Smith of Pocatello and Lynn McBride (Rick Forrester) of Challis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hilra L. Popejoy and mother Naomi (Moore) Popejoy.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot. Immediate family will meet for a private memorial at a later date. Condolences may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
