Robert “Bob” Jay Wilkes, 83, of Springfield passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at his home.
Robert Jay Wilkes was born Nov. 24, 1927 to Julia Ann Preece and John Wilkes. Bob lived in Burley and later moved to Pocatello where he attended school. Bob married Donna Lou Barrett (deceased), together they had a son, Robert and a daughter Robin Ann.
Bob ran the Bargain Barn in Pocatello and then moved to Springfield to raise his race horses. He later married Jeroldine Holbrook. Together they owned and operated the Hitching Post Lounge for 40 years.
Bob enjoyed cutter racing, fishing and being with family and friends.
He joined the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was later baptized.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jeroldine; son, Robert (Barbara) Wilkes; daughter, Robin Ann; step-children, LaRaela (Barry) Scott, Kim (Jim) Doig, Barry Fitch and son-in-law, Kevin Klitgaard; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Lou; brother John Wilkes, Jr.; sister, Geroldine Reynolds and stepdaughter, Lori Whitworth.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot.
The family will meet with friends on Friday from noon -2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
