Frances Caddell Byrd Brown, 93, of Tracy, Calif., and formerly of Pingree passed away Nov. 10, 2011.
Frances was born Aug. 31, 1918 at Bismarck, North Dakota, to Walter Lee Caddell and Bridget Marie Fogarty Caddell. When about four years old she moved with her family to Iron Mountain, Mich., living there until she was about eight years old. The family then moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where she graduated from high school in 1937.
On Oct. 27, 1937, she and William Jewel Byrd were married. They moved to Butte, Montana where they lived until 1944. Two sons were born to this union, Stanley R. and Jerry L. Byrd. Frances and Jewel were divorced Oct. 13, 1944.
Frances then moved to Idaho where she went to telegrapher school in Pocatello. After graduation she worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.
In the fall of 1948 she was sent to Pingree to work as agent-telegrapher for the railroad. Here she met and married Reed J. Brown. He was working for T.S. Vanderford as warehouse foreman. He later became a rural letter carrier for the postal service working out of Pingree. At the time of his death, Aug.15, 1979 he was still carrying the mail.
Frances continued living on the family farm until May of 1997 when she moved to Blackfoot for six months. In December of 1997 she moved to Tracy.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a Family History Mission to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reed Brown; one brother, Michael Burke Caddell; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Byrd.
She is survived by three sons, Stanley R. (Jackie) Byrd of Seattle, Wash.; Jerry L. (Karen) Byrd of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Rex A. (Linda Brown) of Tracy, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot.
The family will meet with friends and family for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
