IDAHO FALLS – The doors of the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Idaho don't open for about 24 hours but more than 75 people already are in line at 3003 S. 25th E. in Ammon despite the single digit temperatures.
The First 100 adults in line when the restaurant opens around 6 a.m. on Thursday will win free Chick-fil-A for a year -- 52 coupons, each good for a Chick-fil-A meal (sandwich, fries and drink). The coupons can be used at any Chick-fil-A in the country and can be given to anyone. Many who win share them with family, friends or donate them to little league teams, civic groups or others who could benefit from free meals. The group includes several people who have participated across the country before including one gentleman from Florida who has been to more than 70 grand openings and two teachers who are skipping school to participate.
Registration has begun and once it’s complete the parking lot will transform into an overnight celebration as the participants set up to stay the next 24 hours. Chick-fil-A will provide entertainment, security, restrooms and, of course, plenty of Chick-fil-A during the countdown. A DJ will be here between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to provide games and music. Later today the campers will enjoy Chick-fil-A for dinner and have a chance to watch “The Polar Express” on an outdoor screen before a late-night Chick-fil-A Chicken Soup party.
The crowd on 25th East includes some first-time participants as well as veterans who have participated in Chick-fil-A Grand Openings across the country. They came prepared to have a good time while waiting bringing chairs, TVs, books, video games, computers and other gear to help pass the time.
The new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Ammon brings with it more than 65 new jobs.
