Mary Alice Smith, 97, of Blackfoot passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012 at the Renaissance Assisted Living Center in Blackfoot.
She was born Aug. 28, 1914 in Blackfoot, the daughter of Joseph V. McKercher and Goldie F. Beasley.
She graduated from Blackfoot High School.
She married Conard Thorpe and they were later divorced. She later married Lee Byington in June of 1943 in Blackfoot. He preceded her in death.
On Jan. 14, 1958, she married William Smith in Kellogg.
Mary worked at the State Hospital as a nurses’s aide and at Bingham Memorial Hospital as a cook. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the state hospital in Warm Springs, Mont.
She enjoyed needlework, fishing and hunting. She crocheted many beautiful tablecloths, doilies and other items.
She is survived by her sister, Joan Shafer of Blackfoot; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her three husbands; two sons, Robert Thorpe and Delwin Thorpe; daughter, Valene Hickok; and three siblings, Liberty Ketchum, Colleen Kiehn and James Lee McKercher.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home.
