Forrest Willard Wood, 94, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at home.
Forrest was born Aug. 12, 1917 to Robert “Bert” Wood and Jessie Mae Churchill in Idaho Falls. He went to school in New Sweden Grande and Idaho Falls High School. He continued on to Idaho State University and the Santa Ana College.
On Aug. 12, 1940 he married Helen M. Morrison in Idaho Falls and the marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Helen preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1998.
Forrest was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was currently serving as a High Priest.
He farmed and ranched his entire life, living the past 32 years in Taber. In his younger days he enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. He also enjoyed reading and was a history buff. He had played the saxophone in early years and retained a love for the Big Band Era sound.
Forrest is survived by his children, Byron (Terri) Wood of Rigby; Carol (Ted) Whitehead of Idaho Falls and Nancy (Nord) Hill of Taber; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; sons, Kent Douglas Wood and Chris B. Wood; daughter, Jennifer C. Clapp; brothers, Kenneth Wood and Lowell R. Wood; and grandchildren Shon Jorgensen and Patricia Castaneda.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services.
Interment will follow at the New Sweden Cemetery at noon following the services. Condolences may be sent to the family at email@example.com .
