James “Jim” Carl Knudsen, 65, of Hayden Lake passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.
Jim was born July 27, 1946 in Chico, Calif., to Carl Einar Knudsen and Catherine Lawrence. He attended school in California, graduating from high school in Santa Rosa, Calif.
He then joined the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War in Vietnam and later in Germany. Shortly after his discharge from the military, he joined the Operating Engineers and was a proud member of IUOE Local #3, #370, #302 and #12 until his retirement. He worked throughout the West on the Alaskan pipeline and various other construction jobs as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1997 and returned to Hayden Lake to reside there. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his friends and neighbors, and enjoyed aviation, antique cars, auctions, his pets and working in the yard. He was a very hard worker and loved to stay busy.
On May 26, 1984 he married Cherie Michele Carman in Coeur d’Alene.
Jim is survived by his wife, Cherie of Hayden Lake; and his many friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Catherine Knudsen.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at the Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot with military honors presented by the American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23.
