Martha Marlene “Molly” Caldwell, 81, of Blackfoot passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 in Blackfoot.
Molly was born April 9, 1930 in Idaho Falls to David John and Martha Surilda Elliott. She grew up in the Lincoln area and graduated from Ammon High School in 1948.
On Nov. 13, 1948 she married the love of her life, Zane W. Caldwell in Idaho Falls. Her passion in life was being a wonderful wife and mother. She spent 47 years helping on the farm in the Riverton Road area on a farm Zane described as being “between the rivers”. She worked part-time for the Blackfoot School District in the food lunch program for 31 years.
She was a member of The Christ's Cowboy Country Church and especially enjoyed the choir, who referred to her as “Miss Molly”. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and United Church Women in Blackfoot. She volunteered in the Blackfoot Ministerial Food Give Away and also helped Zane with the tree sales through the Soil Conservation.
She was a wonderful cook and her signature dish was chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles and homemade biscuits. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and square dancing in her younger years.
She loved being with her family and grandchildren and sitting on her front deck drinking coffee with friends.
She is survived by her three daughters, Marty Caldwell of Blackfoot, Kathleen (Doran) Dalke of Eagle and Doreen (Dan DeGiulio) Ellis of Blackfoot. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Landon Dalkeof Marina Del Rey, Calif.; Heather (Jon) Knapp of Meridian; Dusty (Katie) Ellis of Blackfoot and David Ellis of Blackfoot. She was also blessed with her first great-grandchild, Cierra Mackenzie Knapp in November of 2011. Other survivors include many others that thought of her as a mom or grandmother and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zane Caldwell; her parents; her brother, Reo Elliott; and sisters LuDean Reed and Verla Collins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot, with Max Martin officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 to 9: p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 and for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Grove City Cemetery.
