SHELLEY — Journey's End Golf Course in Shelley will open for the season Tuesday under a new owner — Neil Williams of Idaho Falls.
"When I tell people I've bought a golf course, they look at me funny," Williams said.
"You mean a miniature golf course?" they ask.
"No, I mean a real golf course," Williams replies. "I think this is an asset for the community and a great opportunity for my family."
Journey's End is a recently-developed nine-hole course that plays at a par 35 at close to 3,000 yards. It features a mix of long and short holes with a couple water hazards that will suit a wide range of golfers.
"We are really looking forward to this," he said. "This course offers a different niche than the country club or the city courses.
"The course is not only for real golfers but it is also very accommodating to group golf activities, like family reunions and ward parties," he said.
Plans are to put in a volleyball court and two croquet pitches, "so the non-golfers can enjoy being here while the golfers are golfing."
Williams recently retired from Conan Heating and Air Conditioning in Idaho Falls.
Two of his sons, Joe and Greg, will be working with him. Joe, is the Director of Golf. Joe competed for four years on the Idaho Falls High School golf team. He was a walk-on at Idaho State University where he competed on the golf team for three and one-half years.
Greg will be the Facilities Manager.
"My knees aren't very good but I can get on a riding mower and mow for 12 hours," he said.
"We have a lot [of details] to figure out yet," said Williams. "I'm really looking forward to it."
They plan to have special rates for the entire family on Monday nights and for youth groups on Tuesday nights.
Journey's End Golf Course is located at 1407 N.. 630 E. in Shelley. The course can be reached at (208) 357-3700, email@example.com and on Facebook. The first 10 people to find and "Like" the Journey's End Golf Course Facebook page will win a free round of golf.
