BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Bronco volleyball squad opened their home portion of the 2012 schedule on Tuesday evening as they welcomed 5A Skyline to town for a non-conference tilt on the hardwood.
The Broncos and Grizz battled into extra points in the first game before the Grizz emerged triumphant with a 27-25 victory and then cruised home from their by sweeping the Broncos in three games with 25-15 and 15-13 tallies in the second and third games.
"We just have such a young team," Blackfoot head coach Lorin Lilya said. "We need to be able to come out and focus, especially on the big moments in the game. We have a couple of unforced errors and we just lose our focus."
That proved to be the case in game one as the Broncos had built a 23-19 advantage. Needing just two points to win the opening game Blackfoot committed a service error, one of six in the first game leading to a side out that the Grizz took advantage of, reeling off three more points to tie the game at 23-23.
Still the Broncos had their chance to win the game however as they recorded a side out to take the lead but the Grizz battled back to knot the game back up. Once again the Broncos got a much needed side out for a 25-24 advantage but unfortunately for the Broncos and their fans, the Grizz answered with a side out and a pair of points to steal the first game.
"That first game we played really tough," Coach Lilya said. "Unfortunately we made a couple of errors late which gave them the game and then we just let it get us down for the rest of the match."
Indeed, the momentum clearly swung to the Grizz side of the court as they rolled to the second and third game victories.
Blackfoot (1-2) will look to rebound tonight when they host 5A Hillcrest beginning at 7:30 p.m.
