Fay Floretta McCurdy Bailey, 93, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, from causes incident to age at the Bingham County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mom was born March 17, 1919, in Blackfoot, the daughter of Frank Logan McCurdy and Clara Floretta Steffenson McCurdy.
She attended elementary school in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1937.
On Nov. 3, 1939, Mom married Frank L. Bailey in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in Utah. They made their first home in Lemhi on a ranch where they had no power or running water. Upon the death of Frank’s father and brother, they moved back to Groveland where they took over the family farm. They were blessed with four children, Margot (Adrian) Young, Barton (Pat), Lee (Margaret) and Becky (Dale) Wall. In her later years, she married Earl Bell and enjoyed his companionship.
Mother loved learning and later in life she went to night school. She started correspondence for her accredited Record Technician Certificate and worked as the Director of Medical Records at Bingham Memorial Hospital until retiring in 1981.
Mom loved music and it was always a big part of her life. She accompanied many singing groups and individuals. She was an organist in the Groveland Ward for several years. She loved to dance and in her younger years performed nightly at Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone Park. She also taught tap dance and was a part of a group that performed together while serving a mission in the Washington D.C. Temple.
Even as her health failed, she enjoyed attending church, Relief Society and reading her scriptures. She loved to write letters and keep in touch with all her friends and family. Mother loved the gospel and we as her children are so grateful for everything she taught us.
Fay is survived by her three children, Lee M. (Margaret) Bailey, Margot B. (Adrian) Young and Becky B. (Dale) Wall, all of Blackfoot; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, son, Barton; grandson, Craig Young; great-grandson, Eric Pená; four brothers; and one sister.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at the Groveland Cemetery. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 1 to 1:45 p.m. on Saturday prior to the graveside service at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot.
