BLACKFOOT — It was the close of the 2012 regular soccer season for the Blackfoot Lady Broncos on Tuesday evening and for a trio of seniors, Alexsys Ramirez, Diana Hernandez and Sharon Varela, it was the final home game for them as well.
Unfortunately, on a day in which the wind was howling, the Lady Broncos were unable to muster the offense necessary to win as they fell 3-0 to conference foe Preston.
"The wind was the biggest factor today and we got a little unlucky in the first half on both of their goals with a bad bounce and the wind," Blackfoot assistant coach Natalie Hammond said.
Hammond was coaching the Lady Broncos in the absence of head coach Scott Stuffebeam. Also absent on Tuesday was the Lady Broncos leading scorer, Cassandra Clarke who had to miss the regular season finale with an injury.
The potent offensive star was deeply missed as well as the Lady Broncos were unable to get a shot on goal during Tuesday's contest. The defense played tough though as they battled throughout the 80 minutes allowing the two first half goals and then a third goal late in the game for the final outcome.
"We were excited for the second half I thought that we could do some things with the win in our favor," Coach Hammond said. "It just wasn't our day. The defense did the best that they could do and I have no complaints with how hard they played today."
Blackfoot will open district tournament play on Saturday at 1 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined.
