SHELLEY — The 82nd annual Idaho Spud Day in Shelly begins tonight with the Miss Russet Pageant.
The pageant is at 7 p.m. in the Hillcrest High School Auditorium in Idaho Falls. Eight young ladies are vying for the title of Miss Russet. These contestants are Katie Hatch, Marcy Haney, Stephanie Martineau, Kaitlyn Anderson, Amber Tueller, Kayla Hansen, Rachael Versey and Katelyn Ovard.
To earn this title, each contestant will showcase a talent and outline the community project she will champion.
On Thursday, the musical, "Annie Get Your Gun," will be performed at 7:30 p.m. at the Virginia Theater in Shelley.
On Friday, the Tator Trot takes off at 3 p.m. at the Shelley High School track. The golf tournament at the Journeys End Golf Course in Shelley starts at 1 p.m.
A full slate of activities are scheduled on Saturday.

10 a.m. Spud Day parade on Shelley's State Street
This is the first year a ping pong ball blast will be featured at the end of the parade. Shelley businesses and merchants have proved $2,000 worth of prizes and discounts in the ping pong balls, said Spud Day organizer Lynn Greenhalgh.

People can collect a new clue each day for the "Mr. Potato Head" scavenger hunt.
