Robert David (Dave) Barclay, Sr., 59, of Pocatello passed away at his home Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 from natural causes.
David was born Jan. 2, 1953 in Blackfoot to Michael and Ruth Arleen Howell Barclay. He attended school in Blackfoot, graduating from Snake River High School in 1971. He continued his education at Idaho State University receiving a business degree. He played baseball and wrestled in high school.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Lansing Michigan Mission and served in the Young Men’s, in a High Priest’s group leadership, as executive secretary to the bishop in his ward, was the Single Adult Representative, ward missionary and supported missionary work wherever he could.
On May 22, 1976 David married Jacque Young in Idaho Falls. Together they had four sons, Robert, Benjamin, Jeremy and Jordan. They were later divorced.
David worked on the family farm in Riverside, as a clerk at CAL Ranch in Pocatello, at Basic American in Blackfoot and at Ash Grove Cement in Inkom for several years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing, woodworking, Indian lore, gun trading, reading, dancing and drawing.
David is survived by his sons, Robert David Jr. (Tammy), Benjamin, Jeremy (Mystie) and Jordan (Cassandra), all of Pocatello; brothers, Thomas (Christy) Barclay of Indianapolis, Ind., and Michael Barclay of Spanish Fork, Utah; sisters, Mary Ann (Bill) Thompson of Wapello, Betty (James) Barrow of Blackfoot and Bonnie (Doug) Scholes of Rigby; and three grandchildren, Breana, Brayden and Paige.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Ruth Barclay.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at the Pocatello 3rd Ward Chapel, 225 Oakwood in Pocatello, with Bishop Gary Davis conducting. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Grove City Cemetery (exit #89 then north on Highway 91) in Blackfoot.
