LaVerne Fallis Olson, 88, of Blackfoot returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.
LaVerne was born April 2, 1924, in Hatch, Garfield County, Utah, to Jacob Alonzo and Abigail Clove Fallis. She was the third daughter and the fourth child born to this union. Early in LaVerne’s life it was apparent that physical health was a problem, which also affected her emotional health somewhat all of her life. The doctors diagnosed her condition as St. Vitus Dance.
LaVerne attended school in Hatch and Panguitch, Utah. She loved to dance and have fun in general and never lacked for friends. She was very talented in art. She completed many paintings and gave at least one painting to each of her family. She made many beautiful quilts, was an excellent seamstress; she loved to garden; she had a great love for the mountains and nature and she had a great sense of humor.
On July 17, 1942 LaVerne married Verl W. Sanders and they were later divorced. On Nov. 28, 1945 LaVerne and Thomas Garn Blackburn were married. To this marriage were born five children. LaVerne married Neil W. Olson in April 1978.
LaVerne was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions throughout her life.
LaVerne is survived by her children, Toni Herrick of Blackfoot; Jerry G. (Joann) Blackburn of Leadore; Ben J. (Lian) Blackburn of Delta, Utah; Dell A. (Margy) Blackburn of Blackfoot; GarNell Ward of Blackfoot; Delance (Ruth) Blackburn of Trenton, Mo.; sister, Dorothy Imlay of Emmet; brother, Arvel A. (Anita) Fallis of Fallon, Nev.; brother-in-law, Francis L. Simons of Logan, Utah; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and on great-great-granddaughter.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; her three husbands; three sisters; and one brother.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at the Hatch Cemetery in Hatch, Utah. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot.
