Donald Wayne Wood, 60, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at his home, due to complications from dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Donald was born April 12, 1952 in Blackfoot to Daniel Claude and Josephine Lewis Wood.
He grew up in the Blackfoot area, living in Fort Hall, Thomas and Blackfoot. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1970. He then attended Ricks College and received his bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University.
On June 4, 1971 Donald was married to Sherry Genece Brown in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Soon after, he joined the Army and served in Vietnam. Upon returning to the States, the Army moved him around, living in Washington, Nebraska and California. In 1977 he moved back to Blackfoot to raise his family.
Donald enjoyed helping people as well as camping and hunting. He worked for the City of Blackfoot Water Department for over 20 years. During that time he owned and operated a store and owned Blackfoot Bus Company.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children, Scott (Korina) Wood, Steven Wood, Donna (James) Price and Danielle (Dene) DeMoss; brothers and sisters, Dian (Lynn) Larson, Joseph (Norma Jean) Wood, Debra (Hyrum) Anderson, SueAnn (Jim) Broadbent, David (Linda) Wood, Delray (Brenda) Wood, Jerry Wood, Dennis (Syd) Wood and John Wood; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Andy, Teddy and Eddy Wood; and one sister, Lori Wood.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the Blackfoot LDS Stake Center, 1650 Highland Drive in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow the services at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at firstname.lastname@example.org .
