Julio Talamantes Sr., 86, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at his home in Blackfoot.
Julio was born April 12, 1926, in Balleza, Chihuahua, Mexico to Antonio Escobar and Rita Talamantes. He lived his youth in Parral, Chihuahua, and moved to Blackfoot in 1984.
On July 11, 1946 Julio married Felipa Talamantes in Mexico. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple in October of 1978.
Julio was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a branch president for 17 years. Julio and Felipa taught the temple preparation class and he also served as a home teacher.
Julio is survived by his children, Lazaro (Santiaga) Talamantes of Mexico; Julio Antonio (Kathleen) Talamantes of Blackfoot; Fernando (Aurelia) of Mexico; Maria De La Luz of Mexico; Rogelio (Guadalupe) Talamantes of Mexico; Javier (Orfa) Talamantes of Salt Lake City, Utah,; Maria De Los Angeles (Alberto) Romano of Blackfoot; Patricia (Genovevo) Avitia of Mexico and Eric (Graciela) Talamantes of Rexburg; 34 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Felipa.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the South LDS Stake Center, 900 Riverton Road, in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.
