BLACKFOOT — So far this week the Blackfoot American Legion baseball team has played .500 baseball.
After a split with the Idaho Falls Knights on Monday and another split with Wood River on Tuesday, the Broncos took to the field tired, sore but looking for improvement.
In Wednesday's doubleheader with Twin Falls the Broncos put the fatigue behind them and pulled out two big district wins taking game one 9-8 in eight innings and game two 8-2.
So far this summer the Blackfoot offense has come in spurts, some games they get runs in bunches, the rest it is a struggle.
The bats woke up in game one as the Broncos were able to strike first.
Zach Later led off the inning with a single, Tyler Lindsay doubled to center field to drive in Later. Two batter later Jaron Katseanes doubled to score Lindsay.
But as has been the case so far this season, walks and errors came back to bite Blackfoot.
After a leadoff double to start the inning for the Cowboys, Blackfoot starter Taylor Pearson got two quick outs. But a single, walk and back-to-back errors allowed three runs to score giving Twin Falls the lead.
Twin again capitalized on error in the fifth inning as the were able to push four more runs across to build a 7-2 lead.
In the huddle prior to the bottom of the fifth none of the players believed they were going to lose the game, instead, led by Pearson each believed a win was within their grasp.
Cody Evans made the teams' vision a reality.
Evans had a two-RBI double in the three-run fifth, a two-RBI single in a three-run sixth and the game-winning RBI infield single in the eighth.
The Broncos shortstop finished the game 3-for-5 with five RBI.
In the Broncos sixth, Evans double was set up by a walk to Lindsay, and a single by Pearson. Evans ripped his two out double down the right field line.
After Pearson and Kastseanes went the first four innings on the mound, Broncos head coach Jeff Katseanes went up and down his bench looking for the next arm to take the hill.
After talking to Brady Trappett, he realized that was his man.
Trappett came through.
During each of this three innings on the mound, Trappett got stronger. He allowed one run in his three innings, but threw just nine pitches in the eight.
With one out in the bottom of the eight, Lindsay singled. He moved to third on a error by Twin Falls first baseman Dakota Kent on ball hit by Katseanes.
Evans hit a ground ball deep in the hole between shortstop and second base, Cowboys' shortstop Cody Root madder a play but with a head first slide Evans beat the throw and Lindsay scored from third for the win.
A night after making a game saving catch in a victory over Wood River, Dallin Fairchild took to the mound and threw one heck of a game.
Fairchild threw 139 pitches during his complete game effort in which he allowed four hits and struck out 11 Cowboys.
Pearson was the offensive spark going 4-for-4 in the game with four big RBI.
Pearson had an RBI single in the first, a two-RBI double in the second and an RBI double in the four-run fifth inning.
All Twin Falls was able to muster off of Fairchild was two unearned runs in the second inning.
Evans and Later each finished the doubleheader 5-for-9 at the plate.
Blackfoot now gets to enjoy a day off as they do not return to the diamond until Friday against Buhl.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Blackfoot High School.
The Blackfoot American Legion will be hosting its' annual Alumni Game Thursday July 13 at 6 p.m. at Blackfoot High School.
