Sylvester “Arod” Seaman, 68, passed away June 30, 2013 in Pocatello.
He was born Oct. 19, 1944 to Gordon Seaman and Mamie Holbrook Seaman in Fort Hall. He was raised by his Aunt Ella Penn.
He graduated from Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Okla. and was the captain of the Riverside Indian School football team his Senior Year. After high school he joined the United States Army and went to Vietnam.
Sylvester was a member of the Native American Church and loved attending Pow-wows and Sundances. He enjoyed the great outdoors and was a fine fisherman and hunter. He loved watching football, basketball, baseball, and enjoyed listening to Elvis.
He was employed with the Indian Health Service as a custodian where he retired and other employment consisted of Bureau of Indian Affairs as a land surveyor, Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Facilities Department, Sho-Ban firefighter and Fort Hall Housing.
Sylvester married Mae Billsie and they lived in Fort Hall until her time of death.
He is survived by his brother, Kim Seaman (Sally); his sisters, Ruth Seaman Hidalgo (Clem), Donna Box Diaz (Manual); his aunt Evelyn Ivy Waterhouse; his niece Shawnie Sammaripa, and nephew Lewis Bear; his daughter Ronell Seaman and children; stepsons Harold Billsie and Martin Billsie; stepdaughter Sherry Billsie, and his grandchildren —Savannah Vijil, Johnathan Vijil, Jerathan Vijil, and Elizabeth Bear.
He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his wife (Mae Billsie Seaman), his brothers, Simon Seaman, Delbert Penn, Adrian Seaman, and Virgil Seaman; his sisters, Joyce, Janice, Marilyn Seaman; his aunts Ella Penn, Victoria Bear, Ella Eagle, Madzina Holbrook Appenay (Calvin); his uncles. Edwin Penn, Gans Seaman, Andrew Punkin, Dietz Pongah Sr., Willie Jim; his aunt and uncle, Jane and Wishop Appenay; and his grandfather Dew-vitchee Seaman and grandmother Tee-Wee Seaman.
Traditional viewing will be held at Sylvester Seaman’s residence on Siler Road in Fort Hall, Tuesday July 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. until traditional burial Thursday July 4, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Ross Fork Cemetery. Sunrise ceremony will be at 6 a.m. on Thursday July 4, 2013 at Sylvester’s residence. Family is under the care of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
