Blackfoot has become a sweeter place with the opening of the custom cake and dessert shop "Paisley Cakes." Businesswoman and baker Lanae Lott Workman opened the shop adjacent to the Tesoro gas station on Airport Road.
Workman, a native of Blackfoot, said she has had a passion for baking and creating desserts since she was a child baking small treats in her Easy Bake Oven.
"I've spent hours decorating cakes and perfecting desserts. Desserts have always been my destiny," she said.
Workman attended BYU-Idaho where she earned a degree in business management (with an emphasis in marketing) and a minor in culinary arts.
"I was fully prepared after college to take that next step and open my own business," she said. "I opened Paisley Cakes so I can share my talents and tasty cakes with you."
Workman's "tasty cakes" are her own recipes that she has developed and perfected that include cake flavors such as pina colada, Samoa, chocolate mint and many other other flavors that aren't found in bakeries often.
"Sometimes I just get a wild hair to create something and it'll be in the case that day," she added.
Paisley Cakes also sells specialty treats such as cake pops, truffles, brownies, cookies, cheesecakes, chocolate dipped strawberries and Oreo cookies, candies and chocolates. Workman describes each item as "unique and different."
With over 13 years of experience of baking and decorating cakes, Workman is confident that she can also create the perfect cake for any occasion. She will also do custom dessert orders for any party or celebration.
"From fondant to butter cream, no cake is too challenging," she noted.
While Paisley Cakes is a "one-woman show" for now, Workman said she hopes that as the business grows, she can take on some employees.
A grand opening celebration is planned at Paisley Cakes on Friday and Saturday from 11-7 p.m. The first 50 customers each day will receive a mini-cupcake. The shop is open from 11-7 Monday-Saturday.
