BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot Community Center administrators are seeking the public’s help in developing the programming and design of their proposed new facility.
The Community Center is hosting an initial interest meeting for anyone interested in serving on a Building Committee. The interest meeting will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Blackfoot Community Center at 157 W. Sexton.
Community Center Executive Director Ashlee Howell said the committee is an opportunity for the public to provide input on the new facility.
“We hope to get a variety of people interested and involved,” Howell said.
Howell said they should have a large portion of their initial funding in place by December, and she expects the building committee to make a decision in October on where the Community Center will be built.
“This building committee will be making a lot of big decisions,” Howell said.
Individuals with a variety of perspectives are welcome to share their ideas for the new facility. Howell said they will welcome new ideas from the community on how to make the facility better.
“If people have an interest in the specific programming, this is their chance to speak up,” Howell said.
The Community Center board of directors will elect the committee members. Committee members must be committed, as meetings will be the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month during the duration of the project.
Earlier this year Howell was joined by board and staff members to announce plans to build a new facility that would serve as a recreation center and community center. The Community Center offers childrens’ programs as well as classes for children and adults.
