BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Bronco soccer team took to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon for their last home conference tussle of the season as they welcomed the Hillcrest Knights to town for a critical game as far as district tournament seeding is concerned.
Blackfoot erupted from the gate, taking control of the game from the opening kick as Gera Bartolo found Walter Lopez for the games opening score just 5 minutes into the match.
Just 2 minutes later Bartolo scored himself as he took a crossing pass from Carlos Murrillo and before most of the fans had set up their lawn chairs, Blackfoot led 2-0.
"Tempo, energy, execution, every thing that we talked about before the start of the game they followed through in that first half." Blackfoot head coach Liam Pope said. "We started out fast and got two early goals which is something that we have not done in the past couple of weeks. We've had a lot of possession in the first twenty minutes but have not gotten goals out of it but tonight we got goals out of it and it just lifts the team and sets the scene for the rest of the game."
In the 25th minute Murrillo was the beneficiary of a nice goal kick by Blackfoot goal keep Ozziel Oseguera, planting a shot past a sprawling Hillcrest goal keeper and a 3-0 Blackfoot lead.
Hillcrest got one back in the 28th minute but 2-minutes later Murrillo pushed the lead back out to 3 goals with an unassisted tally.
With the big lead the Broncos played a more defensive second half, thwarting the Knights at nearly every turn as they desperately tried to make a comeback. A lone goal by the Knights in the 65th minute gave some hope to the visitors but a late goal by Hector Munoz sealed the deal as Blackfoot left the field of play with a triumphant 5-2 final.
