Last week Shelley coach Travis Hobson said he wanted his starters to play the opening two quarters against American Falls in their class 3A playoff opener.
His starters got a little longer break than they had anticipated.
A 28-point first quarter outburst was more than enough as Shelley cruised to a 52-0 victory in Holt Arena Thursday night.
American Falls was outmanned and a huge underdog to the top-seeded Russets so making any type of mistake could prove to be especially costly.
On the opening kickoff for the Beavers almost had that costly moment when Cade Anderson fumbled and to retreat 10 yards towards his own end zone to pick up the ball.
Turnovers were the theme of the night for the Beavers as two plays after that near-fumble, quarterback Joey Morris fumbled a handoff that Shelley recovered at the Beavers' 15.
It took just three plays for Tyler Bean to carry the ball into the end zone for the touchdown.
Twenty–seven seconds later American Falls fumbled again, and again Shelley turned the mistake into points.
