Betty Lou Bowen, 91, of Meridian, passed away Nov 10, 2013, at The Gables of Shelley due to natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov 15, 2013 at the Blackfoot East LDS Stake Center, 1289 Mt. Putnam Dr. in Blackfoot. A viewing will be held at the church from 9 - 9:45 a.m. prior to the services. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Meridian Cemetery. Betty was born Oct 24, 1922 at View, Idaho, the daughter of William Alvin and Alice May Robinson Moffett. She graduated from Burley High School in 1940 and Albion State Normal School in 1942 majoring in Elementary Education.
She married Lewis LeRoy Bowen on April 25, 1944 at Lake Charles, Louisiana. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Utah LDS Temple in 1945. Betty and Lewis owned and operated Bowen's Market in Meridian for 22 years.
Betty was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served an LDS temple mission with her husband in the Texas Dallas Mission. Other callings included temple worker in the Boise LDS Temple, German name extraction and over 25 years in the Primary organization.
Survivors include a son: Reid (Sue) Bowen of Idaho Falls; three daughters: Diane (Alan, who passed away in 2010) Yarrington of Blackfoot; Nancy (Kevin) Howard of Twin Falls; and Peggy (Ross) Barson of Heyburn; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and one sister.
