THOMAS — Snake River scored just one basket in the fourth quarter Wednesday night against South Fremont, the good thing for Lady Panthers fans was it was a big one.
Sara Goodwin's four-point play with 2:33 left in the game gave Snake River an eight point lead and the defense took care of the rest as the Panthers earned a 32-28 win at Snake River High School Wednesday night.
"I was proud of the way the kids played tonight," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "We may have only scored 32 points, but if we hold teams to 28 we can win some games."
The game really featured little flow on either end of the floor during the game as both showed early season rust and fatigue after playing for the second consecutive night.
After taking a three-point lead into the second quarter, the Lady Panthers went on a 9-2 run to build a 10-point lead.
Just like they had done the night before against Firth, South Fremont answered with a run of their own.
The Cougars ended the half on a 6-0 run to go into the locker room trailing 19-15.
"We did not have any flow on the floor tonight," Dunn said. "For whatever reason we were flat, but the desire to win was there from everyone we put on the floor and I really liked to see that."
Two third quarter baskets by Sierra Mortensen sparked a 6-0 run to send the Lady Panthers into the final quarters with the same four-point lead.
In the final quarter it took almost five minutes for either team to put a ball in the basket.
South Fremont's Bethany Woolstenhulme's layup with 3:36 to play was the first score of the period.
Woolstenhulme scored a game-high 13. Ivy Goff led the Panthers with eight points.
Snake River (1-1) plays at Blackfoot on Tuesday.
