Betty Bea Aiken Goodwin Nielsen, 90, of Blackfoot passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at The Willows in Blackfoot.
She was born March 27, 1923 in Spring City, Utah to T.W. and Crystal Aiken. She was the oldest of nine children.
On Nov.26, 1943, she married Eldon J. Goodwin in the Manti LDS Temple. They had five children.
She lived in Riverside, Blackfoot and Thomas. Betty worked at a potato warehouse and on the farm with her family. She was an expert seamstress, often making dress patterns out of newspaper. She enjoyed making candy and dipping chocolates was one of her passions. She traveled all over the county sharing her knowledge and demonstrating her talent. Betty loved to crochet, embroider and quilt. She generously shared all with her family. She and Eldon enjoyed bowling, square dancing and had enjoyable dinner parties with her friends..
Following Eldon’s passing on March 7, 1984, she and her Thomas widowed friends went on several great trips, including Hawaii, The Holy Land and Eastern Coast in the fall.
In 1990, she married Grant Nielsen and moved to Colorado. In the spring of 2013 Grant passed away and due to illness, she moved to Idaho and lived in Boise with her youngest daughter, Pam. She spent the last few years legally blind and unable to hear much. She spent some time in the homes of her daughters Sherry and Peggy until she needed more extensive care. She has lived the past 9 months at The Willows.
Betty was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in the Relief Society and Young Women’s, often helping with girls camp.
She is survived by her children, Peggy (Stan) Watt of Pingree, Sherry (Steve) Ormond of Burley, Bryce (Chris) Goodwin of Orem, Utah, Pam (Brian) Price of Boise and son-in-law, Steve Barton of Provo, Utah; siblings, Lou (George) Shepherd of Twin Falls, Kay Sorensen of Salt Lake City, Utah and Gerry J. Aiken of Spring City, Utah; 23 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Eldon and Grant; daughter, Connie Barton; three sisters, Lois, Colleen and Nancy; two brothers, Bernell and Reverl; and two great-grandchildren, Striker and Andrew.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Av., Blackfoot.
The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
