Richard B. Welch, 84, of Blackfoot lost his battle with cancer and passed away at his home on Jan. 18, 2014.
Richard grew up in Bancroft on the family farm. He attended schools in the Bancroft area and was valedictorian of his graduating class, then he went on to serve four years in the U.S. Navy Air Force and served his country in Korea and Japan.
He was married to Janis Genta until her passing in 1989. Three children were born from this marriage, Richard D., Brenda Jayne and Carl.
He married Jodee Ann Moffat in 1990. They lived in Pocatello for a short time and then made their permanent home in Blackfoot, enjoying their horse ranch.
Richard owned and operated Bannock Cleaning and Reliable Contractors for many years.
Richard enjoyed fishing and spending time at the family cabin on the Blackfoot Reservoir. He loved to cook, do leather work and garden. He ran Jodee’s horse ranch for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jodee Ann Welch; his son, Rick Welch; his daughter, Brenda Jayne (Dee) Swartz; stepdaughters, Sandra Medina (Frank Dodge) and Kelly Medina (Chris Becker); grandsons Jeremy Swartz, Brian (Kara) Swartz, Paul Welch, John Welch, Anthony Medina and Henry Medina-Becker; granddaughter Caitlin Scott, great-granddaughters Risan Scott and Taylor Foster; good friends Rosann and Lane Angell, Lloyd and Susan Williams, Dorothy Chatterton and Jim Riley.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, mother, grandparents; son, Carl; brothers, and a sister.
A celebration of life will be held at The Jason Lee Memorial Untied Methodist Church, 168 South University Avenue in Blackfoot on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m., with final military rites being presented at 3 p.m. by the American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23.
Arrangements are under the care of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
