BLACKFOOT — "Be Someone's Hero" is the 2014 Relay for Life theme and the team in charge of decorating the Luminaria bags is hard at work making sure the bags are as special as ever.
"This event is so important for our community here in Blackfoot and we want to help make this year's Relay for Life extra special," said Relay for Life committee member Suzette Martinez.
Families or individuals purchase these special bags to honor loved ones who have lost the battle against cancer or for those who are still battling, by choosing a bag and putting the name of the loved one on the back.
During Relay for Life, these bags line the Blackfoot High School track and are lit up and glow all through the night, symbolizing that cancer never sleeps and that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
This year's bags range from around $10-$15, depending on which is chosen. This year's theme inspired the team to decorate the bags in superhero and princess-like images.
See or buy the various kinds of bags by calling Martinez at 604-5300, Heidi Morgan at 604-6652 or at the U.S. Bank in Blackfoot, 9 S Ash St.
Martinez and other members of the team will be attending Chamber of Commerce meetings and other Relay for Life events throughout the year.
