BLACKFOOT — Coming into the senior night game against Preston Thursday night, the Blackfoot Lady Broncos already knew they would play one more game on their home floor in next week's district tournament.
That did not mean the girls could not send the Blackfoot faithful away without a show.
Morningrose Tobey, Cassandra Clarke and Ella Alvarez combined to score 68 of the Broncos 85 points as Blackfoot ran to an 85-56 win over the Indians Thursday night.
"When we play like we can we can play with anyone," Blackfoot head coach Merle Smith said. "We are starting to get some depth and our bench is playing well and giving us the rebounding and the offensive help we need going into the district tournament."
Tobey got the Broncos going offensively scoring the Broncos first seven points as Blackfoot jumped out to an early lead.
After Tobey's three pointer the Broncos put on their full court pressure defense and the track meet ensued.
The Broncos pressure defense caused numerous turnovers that led to a bunch of of Blackfoot layups.
Despite the numerous layups the Indians were taking advantage of turnovers of their own to tie the game at 14-14 midway through the opening quarter.
But a 9-0 run by Blackfoot gave the Broncos a 23-14 lead, one they would not relinquish.
"Our defense was good tonight and it made our offense go," Smith said. "When our kids get the rebounds they create transition opportunities and tonight we made the most of those opportunities."
Once Blackfoot got the lead they put the pressure on the the Indians constantly pressuring ball handlers and making life miserable for the Indians players.
Blackfoot will host an opening round game of the 4A District 5/6 tournament on Tuesday as they Bonneville. Blackfoot finished the regular season as the district's number four seed.
Clarke finished with a game-high 26, Tobey added 25 and Alvarez had 17 points.
“I like our match-up heading into next week,” Smith said. “We match-up well with Bonneville, Rigby and Preston. So if we get through Tuesday when our going to see either Pocatello or Century . I think we would have a better shot against Poky, but we will see what happens we need to win on Tuesday.”
Blackfoot finished the regular season 9-11 and 4-5 in district play.
