JoAnn F. Van Orden, 78, of Thomas, Idaho passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 peacefully in her home following a fall.
She was born May 15, 1935 to Burton and La Priel Furniss. She was one of five daughters. JoAnn attended school and graduated from Snake River High School.
It was there in the seventh grade that she met her future husband, Glenn Van Orden. She married Glenn, the love of her life, on Nov. 6, 1953 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have five children; 22 grandchildren; and 29 great- grandchildren.
They have spent a full life together, close to family and friends in Thomas.
JoAnn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in any calling she was asked to serve in.
JoAnn worked at Basic American Foods for over 20 years. In her free time, she loved fishing, camping, flowers, gardening and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Van Orden; children, Gil (Julie) Van Orden of Thomas, Tracy Lee (Ray) Reifschneider of Blackfoot, Brian (Laurel) Van Orden of Moreland and Zana (Brent) Bitton of Blackfoot; sisters, Donna Lutz of Chubbuck, Shirley (Royce) Hutchinson of Groveland, Carolyn Van Orden of Pingree and Jean Jones of Meridian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and their son, Brent B. Van Orden.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at the Thomas LDS Chapel. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.
