Letha Spaulding, a 93-year-old Blackfoot resident, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2014, from natural causes.
She was born May 26, 1920, in Blackfoot, the daughter of George Hofer and Clara Noack Hofer.
She has been a lifetime resident of the Blackfoot area where she received her education.
She married Owen Harry Jones on April 18, 1938, in the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1973. She later married Edwin J. “EJ” Carlson on Oct. 19, 1974 in Blackfoot. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2007. Later she married Vance Eli Spaulding in Blackfoot on Dec. 8, 2007.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served faithfully in anything she was asked to do. She loved working with children and also enjoyed her time working in the temple. Letha was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She had worked at Idaho Bank and Trust for 26 years. She also had worked at Blackfoot Livestock and at Safeway for five years and always enjoyed working on the family farm with her husband. She also worked as waitress at Stan’s Grill.
Letha loved her flowers and riding horses. She had an extensive doll collection and enjoyed being a camp host in Cottonwood Canyon.
Survivors include her husband Vance of Blackfoot, her sons Dean (Vickie) Jones of Blackfoot and Bruce (Jeanie) Jones of Springfield Ore.; her four stepdaughters Deborah (Phil) Jordin, Christine (Brian) Morishita, Cindy Bikman, and Julie (Gary) French; one sister, Elda Merrill of Ammon; 9 grandchildren; 27 great- grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands Harry and Edwin “EJ”, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Alceodene, Helen, and Lucille.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S Shilling Ave. The family will meet with friends the night before on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and again on Wednesday for an hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
