BLACKFOOT — Hopefully there will be closure soon for the family of Blackfoot man Jack Doering, who has been missing for over a year, as San Bernandino County officials work to identify human remains found in the California desert that are believed to be his.
Doering, who would be 83 years old and suffered from Alzheimer's disease, has not been seen since Jan. 17, 2013 when he grabbed the keys his Chevy Suburban and drove away from a Yuma, Ariz. shopping center where he and his wife Leah were getting haircuts. The longtime Blackfoot residents wintered in the area.
After months of searching, the first real break in the case came on Jan. 4, 2014, when workers from San Bernandino County found Doering's disabled vehicle in a wash in a remote area near Parker, Ariz. (on the California side) about 125 miles away from where he drove off. The direction he was driving supports the theory that he may have been trying to get back home to Blackfoot.
