Samuel W. Cornwall, 79, of Blackfoot passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at his home.
Samuel was born Jan. 2, 1935 in Inkom to Lavern Cornwall and Vera Geneva Siler. He was raised in Idaho, but lived in California, Texas, Michigan, Massachusetts and in Germany over the years.
He married Catherine Blenkle on May 14, 1954 in Pocatello and later had their marriage solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Samuel was in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, serving in Vietnam and Greenland.
Catherine passed away in 2005.
On Aug. 8, 2007 Samuel married Phyllis R. Cornwall in the Blackfoot 11th Ward chapel and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Samuel worked as a machinist and a bar owner. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a counselor in the bishopric and at the Family History Center.
Samuel is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Blackfoot; sons, Danny L. Cornwall, Steven M. Cornwall, Milford M. Crosby Jr. and Russell Crosby; daughters, Sandra M. McKinlay, Terry J. (Paul) Skillman and Paralle L. (Boyd) Norton; 18 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Catherine; brothers, Stanley (Maxine) Cornwall, Clifford Cornwall and Paul Cornwall; and sister, Vera (Bill) Murphy.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at the Blackfoot 11th LDS Chapel, 520 N. Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow with military honors at the Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at email@example.com .
