Sara Jo Hammond, 36, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sara was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on Sept. 8, 1977, and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1995. She worked in hotel management in Salt Lake City since moving from Idaho.
Sara was loved and cherished by many because of her beautiful soul and fighting spirit which she displayed so eloquently when she was recovering from being badly injured by a driver while walking in downtown Salt Lake many years ago.
Sara was blessed with many wonderful friends who all meant the world to her. In her management job she enjoyed meeting new people and making lifelong friendships.
She shared an extremely close and loving bond with her mom, Jolynn, brother Kyle and her significant other of 14 years, J. J. Hutchings, and her father, Kim. She anxiously anticipated meeting and being an aunt to her first and only nephew, Kyle and Kumi’s new baby, Noah.
Sara is survived by her father, Kim (Chris) Hammond of Pocatello; mother, Jolynn Hammond of Blackfoot; brother, Kyle (Kumi) of Nagaki, Japan; nephew, Noah, her life partner, J. J. Hutchings of Salt Lake City, Utah; and maternal grandfather, Homer Chaffin of Salmon. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Sally Chaffin and Dilworth and Lila Hammond.
A viewing will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho.
Just as Sara would always sing to her mom the theme from the “Golden Girls,” we now say to her “Thank you for being a friend.”
