Earl Cecil Brewster, 91, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at his home.
He was born April 22, 1922 in Sacramento, Calif., the son of Cecil Joseph Brewster and Ida Clara Woods Brewster.
He graduated from Myrtle Creek, Ore. High School
Earl served his country during World War II in the Navy and was injured, but later re-enlisted in the Army Air Corp.
On May 8, 1945, he married Afton Millar in Denver, Colo. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
They moved to Blackfoot in 1953.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as counselor in the bishopric, High Priest group leader, three stake missions, oversaw the church services at the State Hospital and served missions with Afton in Charlotte, North Carolina; Jamaica and at the Salt Lake Family History Center. He was very involved in the Cub and Boy Scout programs.
Earl worked as a security guard at the INEL for many years.
He enjoyed fishing and working on cars.
He is survived by his wife, Afton of Blackfoot; children, Linda Taylor of Blackfoot, Stephen Earl (Cheryl) Brewster of Klamath Falls, Ore.; MaryAnn (Butch) Taylor of Boise; Larry Dan (Vonda) Brewster of Billings, Mont.; Kathy Marie (Frank) Riegel of Mesa, Ariz.; Nathan J. (Barbara) Brewster of Idaho Falls; Mathew Dean (Cheryl) Brewster of Boise; Robert Wayne (Lori Michelle) Brewster of Aberdeen and Timothy Ray Brewster of Richmond, Va.; 27 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Naoma and Ruth.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Blackfoot East LDS Stake Center, 1289 Mt. Putnam Dr.
The family will meet with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. and for one hour prior to the service at the stake center.
Interment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
