BLACKFOOT – It is fundraising season at Ridge Crest Elementary and a couple of area businesses have come forward with big donations.
Both Brent Gordon Law Firm and Brandon and Summer Jackman with local State Farm offices have boosted fundraising efforts at Ridge Crest by each donating $600 which will result in two new projectors for classrooms.
“Last year we received good feedback from parents about our fundraiser,” said Nancy Wells, PTA past president. “They wanted to know what is our goal and what will the money be used for. So this year we sent home a letter saying exactly what we needed. It has been exciting to see the Jackmans and Brent Gordon’s willingness to each supply the funds for two projectors.”
“We saw the note that came home and when we realized there was a shortage for equipment that teachers need to teach we knew we needed to do something,” said Brandon Jackman. “My wife has worked in education and every time we hear of education cuts it drives us crazy.”
“For me it is more about being a parent than anything,” said attorney Brent Gordon. “My kids have had a great learning experience at Ridge Crest. For me, it’s important to support my children, their friends, and their classmates in their education. I love Ridge Crest and appreciate the teachers and administrators -- I am willing to support that.”
Ridge Crest Elementary has adopted a new math curriculum that allows teachers to connect to the Internet and project the lesson. This year’s fundraiser aims to collect enough money to purchase 13 new projectors for the classrooms that are ready to begin using them.
“I feel like it is our responsibility to give back to the community that supports us,” said Jackman. “There is no better way to give back than by helping and supporting the kids in our community.”
