Dila Renee Gibbs Peterson, 86, a former Blackfoot resident, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 in Lynnwood, Wash., after a long battle with cancer.
Dila was born on Sept. 24, 1927 in American Falls, Idaho. She grew up in Southern Idaho. She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she learned bookkeeping and shorthand. These skills served her throughout her life in various secretarial and bookkeeping positions.
After marriage to Calvin Peterson in 1948, they settled in Blackfoot, Idaho. The family moved to Washington state in 1967, where she spent the rest of her life. When she moved to Washington, she adopted her middle name and was known as Renee.
Dila Renee’s most treasured roles in her life were those of mother (and grandmother) and being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She felt extraordinarily blessed to have each of her children. She used the power of prayer often for their safety and happiness; then extended this gift on to their children and their children.
Dila Renee is survived by her three children, Vicky (Steven) Hammond, of McKinney, Texas; Ross (Wendy) Peterson of Tempe, Ariz.; Julie Johnson of Lynnwood, Wash.; two brothers, Durl Gibbs and Ronald Gibbs; her sister, Karen Clement; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho. The family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

A Memorial Open House is planned at the LDS Church, 17321 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood, Wash., Tuesday June 3, 2014 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Relief Society Room.
