Emilia L. Underwood, 68, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Bingham Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 7, 1945 in San Benito, Texas, to Constancio M. Luis and Severiana Riveria Luis. The early years of her life were spent in Texas. She attended school through the second grade and was then needed at home to tend her siblings while her parents worked in the fields. At an early age her family moved to Blackfoot where her parents were able to find work.
On July 7, 1967 she married James C. Underwood in Blackfoot, Idaho. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2013.
Emilia was a member of the Catholic Church. She also enjoyed visiting with the home teachers from the LDS Church.
Emilia began working outside the home as soon as she was old enough. Her first employment was at Lambert Produce, working in the potato warehouse as a potato sorter. She continued to work at Tepee and Sunspiced Potatoes until her health forced her to retire.
She enjoyed crocheting and loved to cook; she always made sure no one left her home hungry and was well known for her cooking. She loved the times spent with her children, grandchildren and siblings.
She is survived by her children: Mary Ann (Kent) McCrary of Blackfoot; James S. (Teresa) Underwood of Las Vegas, Nev.; John D. Underwood of Blackfoot, Juanita Underwood Bryant (Blaine Winberg) of Aberdeen; Michael K. (Holly) Underwood of Blackfoot; brothers, Elidoro R. (Joyce) Luis of Pocatello, Leonard (Martina) Luis of Groveland, Juan (Judy) Luis of Blackfoot, Elpedio (Luz) Luis of Moreland, Raynaldo Luis of Pocatello and Victor (Leticia) Luis, Moreland; sisters, Paula (Humberto) Reyes of Moreland and Rosa Luis of Groveland; numerous grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 584 W. Sexton, Blackfoot.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, with a viewing to follow. Interment will be in the Moreland Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.hawkerfuneralhome.com .
