Local MMA Fighter Picks up First Win

BLACKFOOT—Rayce Ranstrom of Pingree, and Jonathan Turpin of Blackfoot, for Team Mayhem brought home some impressive wins this past Saturday.
They earned those victories at the Mixed Martial Arts Showdown 2 at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Convention Center.
Turpin, a 2009 graduate of Snake River High School, has an extensive background in wrestling, including qualifying as a state finalist his senior year. Although his love for wrestling will never falter; Mixed Martial Arts has slowly but surely become his new passion.
"It helps keep my life stress-free," said Turpin.

2013 High Country Conference Softball All-Conference Team

BLACKFOOT — The season is over. The stats have been compiled and the votes are in for the 2013 High Country Conference softball All-Conference team and as expected, the 23-3 Blackfoot Lady Broncos have several selections to this years team.
"Honestly, while we are happy with the all-conference selections that we got, we felt that we could have had even more," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "Our top eight hitters in our lineup each hit over .400 this year and when you are hitting at those levels, regardless of what league your playing in, that's pretty special."

Blackfoot boys narrowly miss state tennis title

A half a point. That was what separated the Blackfoot boys tennis team from winning a state tennis title as they finished second in the team race with 27.5 points. Century won the team title with 28 points while Columbia was third with 25.5 points. On the Girls side of the tournament Blackfoot finished in sixth place with 19.5 points while Skyview were crowned the champions with 29 points.

Rich get richer! Panthers topple Fruitland for 3A state baseball championship!

FRUITLAND — Tears, disbelief and shock were on display at the 3A state baseball tournament but the agony of defeat was not from the expected dugout. After advancing to their first ever state baseball championship game, the Snake River Panthers stunned the mighty Fruitland Grizzlies on their home field, in front of a capacity crowd, by the final score of 8-4 for their first ever baseball state championship.
"It's been a real fun year. A real fun ride," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "I said it before at districts and I'll say it again here at state now that it's over. Don't ever dangle a state championship in front of Snake River kids because they will get it. Don't ever dangle a championship in front of Snake River."
