Bingham Co-op begins Harvest for Hunger campaign

Bingham Cooperative is kicking off its annual Harvest for Hunger food drive by raffling off a propane powered portable generator. Ticket prices are one ticket for $5 or six for $25.
Everyone can purchase tickets, including Bingham Coop employees, said Bingham Coop Marketing Director Jeff Nii. The generator retails for $1,000.
With the help of its patrons, employees and members of the community, last year Bingham Co-op gave $14,100 as well as boxes of food to the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency (SEICAA).
"What's nice about this food drive is all the money and food raised stays here in the community," said Nii. "In two years, we've been able to give over $28,000 to SEICAA.
"We are working together to help fight hunger in our community," he said.
The parent company, Cenex Harvest States, matches the amount contributed.
People can come into Bingham Co-op to purchase raffle tickets or contribute money, canned foods, bulk grain and/or bulk potatoes.
Financial donations are encouraged because food banks can utilize their buying power to provide nutritious food at deeply discounted rates. For every $1 donated, the food bank can provide 3.5 to 7 meals.
Contributions are accepted through March 20 at Bingham Co-ops in Blackfoot and American Falls.
