Blackfoot's Boys Tennis team led the state in academics for 2012 with a cumulative GPA of 3.93. The boys team also earned a fourth place finish at the state tournament last weekend. Pictured from left are Bobby Cannon, Tyler Cannon, Jacob Harris, Paul Cannon, Tanner Norton and Coach Brint Jefferis. Other members of the Academic State Championship team were Mark Hudson, Anthony Smith, Jared Evans and Daylan Bird.

Excuse Blackfoot tennis coach Brint Jefferis if he's popping his buttons with pride these days.
His boys' tennis team is the Academic State Champion in Class 4A for the second straight year.
The Bronco team finished the year with a 3.93 grade point average. (4.0 equals straight A's.)
"For nine people that's incredible," he said. "Mark Hudson is the class valedictorian."
Members of the state championship team include Hudson, brothers Paul and Bobby Cannon, their cousin Tyler Cannon, Jacob Harris, Tanner Norton, Anthony Smith, Jared Evans and Daylan Bird.
"Five of these boys qualified for state (where they finished fourth)," Jefferis noted proudly.
In addition to tennis they have been involved in the We The People competitive government class, band, the economic summit, basketball, cross country and wrestling.
And, while the girls' team didn't win the academic state championship, they had a grade point average of 3.75.
