Broncos finish season sweep of Diamonbacks

BLACKFOOT — All in all it was a highly successful senior night at Blackfoot High School as the Bronco faithful paid tribute to senior band, cheerleader, broncadette and basketball players as they took to the Chris Gardner Gymnasium for the final regular season time on Wednesday evening.
In the end, the basketball team sent those seniors out in style as they completed the regular season sweep of the Century Diamondbacks by winning a 47-36 defensive affair.
"It took us two and a half quarters to finally blow it open but when we did we took control of the game," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "It was an extremely good effort and I'm just really proud of the kids. It was a great way to end senior night."

Blackfoot led 9-6 after one period of play but Century regained the lead in the second quarter and it looked as if they were going to head into the locker room with a three point lead. That is until Paul Cannon snagged a half court try out of the air and then tipped in a shot at the buzzer, giving Alonzo Ramos the assist on a buzzer beater that ignited the large crowd.
Momentum gained then spilled over into the third quarter of play as Blackfoot opened the frame with a 14-3 run. The seniors scored every point in the quarter with Tyler Cannon and Austin Campbell each scoring 4 points, Paul Cannon with 8 and Colby Pearson with a bucket as the Broncos outscored Century 18-8 for a 37-28 advantage.
"We talked about getting the ball up and down the court at the half," Coach Hale said. "We felt that we were faster than they were and that they were slow getting down the court so that was the biggest change. Once we started doing that we were able to get some big baskets in the transition game."
Fourth quarter action was a push with Blackfoot holding the Diamondbacks to 8 points in the fourth quarter while the Broncos scored ten for the eleven point finale.
Paul Cannon led all scorers with 14 points on the night while Austin Campbell, who battled a very tall front line all evening long, tallied 10 in the winning effort.
"Austin may have been outsized but I guarantee that he was stronger than those kids. Austin was just so strong down there for us tonight just like all season long," Coach Hale said.
With the win Blackfoot improves their record to 7-11, 3-6 in conference play and they will close out the regular season on Friday when they make the road trip to Preston for a 7:30 ball game with the Indians.
