The Blackfoot American Legion Broncos baseball team welcomed the Runnin Rebels of Pocatello to town for a pair of district games that will help to determine the seeding for the District tournament next month. The Broncos were on a modest three game win streak entering the double header with Pocatello and wanted to extend the streak to five.
Coach Liam Pope would send his son Rhys to the mound for the opener and the slender righty would respond in the way that a coach would like to see.
Pope would throw a complete game for the win, complete with four strike outs and was seemingly in control for the entire contest. Using a mixture of a good fastball, a hard dropping curve and a change up, Pope was able to keep the Runnin Rebels off balance at the plate and his running mates were able to provide the offense as the Broncos downed the Running Rebels 6-3 in the opener.
