BYU's Vocal Point to perform at Snake River High

THOMAS — Brigham Young University's a cappella group Vocal Point has been delivering show-stopping performances on NBC's "The Sing-Off" the past two weeks, and they will be bringing their high-energy, entertaining show to Bingham County Nov. 5.
Sponsored by Snake River Fine Arts, Vocal Point will perform at Snake River High School at 7 p.m. that day. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 684-9684.
Snake River Fine Arts President Marlynn Williams said more than half the tickets have already been sold and they anticipate selling out. She encourages anyone wishing to attend to purchase tickets in advance.
"They're a great group," Williams said. " We're very excited to have them here."
In addition to the concert, Vocal Point will also offer two afternoon workshops prior to the show—the first on vocal percussion and the second a general workshop in which participants will have the opportunity to sing a song with Vocal Point. Williams said the workshops will provide an opportunity for local singers to work with Vocal Point in a small group for a unique experience. Workshop tickets are $5 per workshop or $8 for both.
Proceeds from the event benefit Snake River Fine Arts, which supports arts programs in Snake River schools, the Snake River Community Orchestra, scholarships and prize money for students competing in the Crawford Cup.
Adding to their long list of accomplishments, Vocal Point has been impressing the judges and audience on "The Sing-Off," airing Monday nights on NBC. They were the first group announced to go through to the next round this week after performing Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never" followed by "The Way You Look Tonight."
With a varied repertoire and a wide range of vocal possibilities—and seeming impossibilities—Vocal Point has it all: rock, pop, country, jazz, and R&B. This nine-man group takes the songs you hear on the radio, retools them, and delivers a new rendition, complete with all the complex instrumentation done entirely with their mouths.
The group performs for over 50,000 people each year, regularly selling out shows weeks in advance. In July 2010, Vocal Point performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” for an audience of over 80,000 at the Boy Scouts of America Centennial Celebration. Vocal Point has performed for the San Francisco Giants at 3Com Stadium and for ambassadors from around the world in Washington, D.C. In February 2002, at the invitation of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, the group was selected to perform at nearly every major venue for the Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games.
