Donna Belle Reed Benson, 90

Donna Belle Reed Benson, 90, died Jan. 2, 2012, with her family by her side at her granddaughter’s home in Stansbury Park, Utah.
Donna was born on Oct. 30, 1921 in Iona to Albert C. and Ivy Bernice Scoresby Reed. Her father was the only person in his family to join the LDS Church, and after moving west from Pennsylvania, he met Ivy.
Ivy was born in Australia, where her parents joined the LDS Church and immigrated to Idaho, where Ivy found Albert. Ivy died when Donna was only 18 months old, and Donna spent many of her early years with her Grandfather and Grandmother Scoresby and with Uncle Alvin and Aunt Martha Scoresby.
After working her way through college (Albion State Normal School), she was hired to teach elementary school in Moreland. It was in Moreland that her future husband, Boyce, drove his Ford tractor to the school so he could court his future bride. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on Sept. 11, 1942.
Donna was never very far from school - she taught elementary school for more than 25 years and influenced thousands of children, including her own.
Service was an important part of Donna’s gentle soul. All who knew her, loved her. Donna served members of the LDS Church for her entire life in many church callings, including Relief Society president in the Moreland Second Ward, two missions in San Diego, three missions at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and one mission in St. George, Utah.
Donna is survived by her six children: Edward Daniel (Loretta), Fullerton , Calif.; Reed L. (Jeanne), Sandy, Utah; Kirk A. (Gael) Alpine, Utah; William Boyce (Heidi), Moreland; Kristine, Stansbury Park, Utah; and James Lynn (Laura) Loveland, Colo.  She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and a brother, E. Lynn Reed (Charlotte), West Valley City, Utah.
After Donna’s mother died, her father married Annie Melvina Judy and brought Donna 10 additional brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by Lola, Evelyn, Vonnie, Arnold, and Verl.  Donna is survived by Glen, Lee (Joann), Wesley, Francis (Kay), and Ronald (Louise).
Donna was also preceded in death by a grandson, Trenton Benson, a great- granddaughter, Dana Harris, and her eternal companion Boyce, who died in 2002. She has waited 10 years to be reunited with him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Blackfoot, Idaho, Northwest Stake Center, 95 North 740 West, Blackfoot (just south of Moreland on the Moreland Riverside Road).
Family will meet with friends at the Hawker Funeral Home 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot on Friday Jan. 6 from 7- 9 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service at the stake center.
