The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Saturday, March 10. The dinner features rib-eye steak, beer-battered shrimp, baked potato, mixed vegetables, roll and apple crisp dessert. It begins at 6 p.m. at the Blackfoot Elks Lodge, 123 N. Ash. The cost is $15 per person. RSVP by calling (208) 785-1080.
Lori Marvin, public relations person with the Blackfoot Elks, said, “I’ve been in Blackfoot 18 years and been part of the Elks for 17 years because I wanted to make a difference.”
Marvin is particularly involved with veterans. Those living at Vets’ Home in Pocatello are remembered on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. She also organizes a picnic each year and arranges for vets to attend the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
The Blackfoot B.P.O.E. started on July 13, 1922.
