Grocery store celebrates 50 years in Firth

FIRTH -- Monday marked the 50th anniversary of the grocery store “Stop n Shop” in Firth. Clarence (Shorty) and Pearl Neihart opened Stop n Shop on May 9, 1961.
In its 50 year history, the grocery store has served the Firth community in two locations.
It was first located on the corner of the 200 block on South Main, across the street from Colletts.
After the Teton Dam broke in June 1976, the business moved to its present location in 1977 at 409 S. Main, Firth.
To celebrate this half century mark, store owner Vicky Youngstrom served free hot dogs, soda, popcorn and watermelon to the community last Saturday.
Neihart's son, Dennis, sold the business to Vicky Youngstrom in 2000.
“Now I work for Vicky and take care of the meat department,” Neihart said.
Neihart also owns a furniture store in Driggs called “The Rusty Nail.”
“My daughter takes care of it for me,” said Neihart.
